One day, Jordyn and Derek Slack were unexpectedly greeted by a thin and needy Boxer puppy on their porch in Tennessee. The little dog seemed desperate for help, gazing at them with eyes full of hope. Jordyn gently petted the puppy and promised to care for him.
The Slacks provided the puppy, whom they named Jack, with food and water. Jordyn reached out to a local animal shelter, which promptly arrived to take Jack for a vet visit. The vet found no microchip, leaving Jack’s origins unknown. Despite attempts on social media, Jordyn couldn’t trace Jack’s family or find out more about his past. Noticing Jack’s relatively clean state, the Slacks guessed he hadn’t been alone in the wild for long.

When the shelter asked if they could foster Jack for the weekend, the family eagerly welcomed him back into their home. Initially, Jack was exhausted and spent a lot of time sleeping, but soon he bonded with the couple’s young daughter, Baylor. The two quickly became inseparable, with Jack always at Baylor’s side.
Jordyn shared online, “He has really taken up with our ten-year-old daughter Baylor. They are best friends. I think he found his person. He follows her everywhere. He loves her and she really loves him.”
Although the family adored Jack, an issue arose between him and their French Bulldog, who didn’t get along. Facing the reality that keeping Jack wasn’t feasible, the Slacks set out to find him a loving home.

Their search led to a couple who had experience with Boxers and had recently lost their own beloved dog. With plenty of time and love to offer, the pair seemed like the perfect match. Upon meeting them, Jack showed immediate affection. “As soon as the lady sat down, he jumped up in her lap and was licking her on the face. It was really sweet and they were so excited,” Jordyn recounted.
Now living closeby in Athens, Tennessee, Jack still enjoys occasional visits from Baylor. The Slacks, while saddened by his departure, are reassured knowing Jack is cherished in his new home, leading a life filled with attention and care.
