From the very start, Thora was a puppy with a touch of uniqueness. Born as the smallest in her litter, she faced some early challenges but managed to persevere. Her life took a positive turn when a kind-hearted woman named Erin entered the scene.

Initially, Thora lived in a situation where her needs weren’t a priority. Her previous owner intended to crop her ears and use her for breeding, a plan Erin found unacceptable. “That just broke my heart and I couldn’t let that happen. So I scooped her up immediately,” Erin shared with GeoBeats Animals.

Erin quickly decided to rescue Thora, unaware that there was more to this little dog than met the eye. Shortly after bringing Thora home, Erin noticed that the puppy didn’t react to noises as other dogs typically do. Unlike most animals, Thora was unfazed by the hustle and bustle of the city.

Realizing Thora might be deaf, Erin accepted this without hesitation. Her love and commitment to Thora only grew as she decided to provide the best life possible. “I was just like I’m gonna give her the life that she deserves and get some really sound advice from dog behaviorists who specialize in deaf dogs,” Erin explained.

Interestingly, Thora’s inability to hear turned out to be a hidden advantage, sparing her from the stress of barking dogs, blaring sirens, and fireworks. Completely oblivious to the noise in her surroundings, she became a model apartment dog.

Over the past two years, Erin and Thora have developed their own way of communicating through hand signs and body language. Although it took time to adapt, the bond between them has grown stronger.

In appearance, Thora is just as unique as her personality. Erin describes her fondly as resembling a mix of a piglet, dinosaur, and alien, but also likens her to a cappuccino, “milk frothy on the top and just sort of mocha color on the bottom with a little like paintbrush tail.”

When Thora struts around with a big smile, it’s hard for anyone not to feel the joy she exudes. Through caring for Thora, Erin has come to appreciate that everyone is different and has their own way of learning, much like her special little dog.
