At just seven years old, Althea was shockingly underweight at twenty pounds, a grim result of severe neglect and mistreatment by her previous owner, often being left without food.
Thankfully, concerned members of the local community noticed Althea’s alarming condition and took action, aiming to give her a new and better life. The Vegas Pet Rescue Project (VPRP) in Las Vegas came to her aid after receiving an alert from a nearby shelter, deciding to take Althea under their wing.
Upon her arrival at VPRP, her caretakers were stunned by her appearance. Althea’s condition highlighted the grim realities of neglect that many animals endure. It was evident she had suffered significantly, considering she weighed a mere twenty-three pounds instead of the sixty pounds typical for her breed and age.
Althea’s heartbreaking story quickly captured nationwide attention, shocking many with the cruelty inflicted upon such an innocent animal.
Victoria Sakha, a reporter, helped spread awareness of Althea’s plight through a Facebook post, describing how the pit bull had been found in such poor health, clearly missing proper nutrition for an extended period. In response, the VPRP community rallied to identify those responsible for Althea’s suffering, raising a reward fund that swiftly grew to tens of thousands of dollars, aiming to bring justice.
