In her debut piece, Jolie explores the parallels between contemporary refugees and those who fled during World War II, which ultimately led to the establishment of the UN Refugee Agency.

She prompts readers to rethink their perceptions of refugees, noting that if one asked a child of World War II about refugees, they would likely describe Europeans fleeing conflict.

Jolie emphasizes the importance of supporting refugees under international law, asserting that aiding them is not optional but a legal obligation. She argues that it is feasible to maintain strong border controls and humane immigration policies while fulfilling responsibilities to refugees.

Previously, Jolie authored an article for Time on the role of women in Afghan peace negotiations. On the acting front, Jolie recently completed filming “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” “The One and Only Ivan,” and “Come Away.”

Jolie’s divorce proceedings with ex-husband Brad Pitt have been contentious in her personal life. Pitt has reportedly pressed for a final deadline for Jolie to sign their divorce papers, with a potential financial penalty for non-compliance. Their court case has been extended until December 31, 2019.

Jolie and Pitt, who met on the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” set in 2005 and married in 2014, have been navigating their split since Jolie filed for divorce in 2016.
