Angelina Jolie has opened up in a revealing photoshoot and interview with Harper’s Bazaar, where she discussed her journey, thoughts on motherhood, and her desire to live overseas.
The 44-year-old Oscar-winning actress posed nude beneath a sheer white sheet for photographer Sølve Sundsbø and shared her struggles and aspirations in the accompanying interview.
Jolie, who has six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt, revealed that she would like to live abroad with her children but is currently unable to do so due to Pitt’s preference to have their kids reside in Los Angeles.
“I would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as my children are 18,” she stated, acknowledging that their custody arrangement currently binds her. The couple split in 2016 and are still working through their divorce, though they are legally single.
The interview also touched upon Jolie’s journey through significant medical procedures, including a double mastectomy and ovary removal. She noted that these experiences have left visible and invisible scars, with the latter being harder to overcome.
“Life takes many turns,” she said, indicating that her relationship with Pitt had caused emotional pain. Yet she found solace and strength through her children, who know her true self and help her embrace it.
Jolie, who shares custody of five of her six children with Pitt, expressed her belief in raising children to be true to themselves and allowing them to embrace their individuality.
“As parents, we encourage our kids to embrace all that they are,” she explained, adding that this approach helps children navigate the challenges of growing up in today’s world.
The actress also highlighted the pressures on mothers to be perfect and her rejection of labeling people into boxes. “I don’t want to live in a world where everyone is the same,” Jolie said, advocating for diversity and celebrating differences.
She also spoke about her iconic tattoo, “A prayer for the wild at heart kept in cages,” which she got at 20 after being inspired by Tennessee Williams’ words.
