Despite having been shot multiple times with a shotgun, leaving him with over 200 pellets embedded in his body, Buck’s gentle spirit shines through.
He greets everyone with a wagging tail, showcasing the unwavering positivity and strength that dogs often possess.
Following the incident, Buck was taken to Vergi 24/7 for a thorough examination. The veterinary team conducted x-rays reviewed by a radiologist and promptly started him on IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain relief medication.

Unfortunately, some skin on his face was severely damaged and required a medical procedure called debridement to remove the dead tissue.
The caregivers express their hope that whoever harmed Buck sees how well he is recovering. “Someone tried to harm this dog with a shotgun, but they didn’t succeed,” they shared.
“We are committed to giving Buck the best possible new life and ensuring his complete recovery.” While the identity of the person responsible remains unknown, the focus is on ensuring this type of cruelty is prevented in the future.

Most of the pellets are lodged in Buck’s face, but fortunately, the vet does not anticipate the need for extensive reconstructive surgery. Some minor procedures could help align the tissues more effectively.
Initially, there was a concern that Buck might be lame due to a possible pellet in his joint. The plan was to monitor his condition over two weeks.
When his limping did not improve, a CT scan was considered, but ultimately deemed unnecessary. The medical team continues to monitor his progress and expects his condition to improve.

More than 24 days into his recovery, Buck’s face shows significant healing. Soon, there will be little evidence of the devastating injury he sustained.
While the vets continue to keep an eye on him, they are optimistic about his recovery. Buck is also preparing to undergo neuter surgery and heartworm treatment, bringing him closer to finding his forever home.
At Day 30, Buck is showered with love and attention, receiving many toys that bring him joy despite their short-lived lifespan. His journey through recovery and onto a new family marks a testament to his strength and tenacity.

Over four months after the incident, Buck has made an impressive recovery. His enduring spirit and enormous smiles are a testament to his strength and the unwavering support he has received.
He is now eagerly preparing to join his new, loving family, ready to start a happier chapter in his life. Thank you to everyone who has supported his journey.
