Four years back, a dog was found abandoned at a subway station in Lima, Peru. Tied to a wheeled apparatus, he was named “Cabezón” by those who rescued him. The restraints around his body were so tight that it rendered him immobile, leaving him with his head hanging down.

Sara Moran, who runs the Milagros Perrunos shelter specifically for injured dogs, is puzzled about how Cabezón ended up in that state. She suspects that his owner may have tied him up and left him there after he hurt his back legs.

The story of Cabezón, affectionately referred to as “Bobblehead,” took a unique turn when children came across him. They fed him and helped free him from an object he was entangled with. However, an accident left Cabezón unable to walk, according to news sources.

Despite the bustling daily crowds, nobody initially noticed the dog’s predicament. By the time help arrived, Cabezón’s condition was critical, as Sara describes. A group of young people eventually decided to take him to Sara’s home, recognizing her dedication to helping severely injured or paralyzed stray dogs. She cared for them in special beds designed to accommodate their needs.

Concerned for his well-being, Sara took Cabezón to a veterinarian without delay. The diagnosis was grim: Cabezón had suffered severe spinal damage, kidney failure, and multiple cuts and sores. The situation was further worsened by extensive genital injury from being immobilized on a table where he was forced to relieve himself.

The outlook for Bobblehead was grave. The veterinarian doubted his survival, and if he managed to live, permanent paralysis was expected. In Peru, where stray animals are commonly seen, Sara feared that many might opt to euthanize a dog like Cabezón, given his severe injuries and lack of companionship.
