Veterinary technician Kathryn first encountered Sally, a tiny puppy in critical condition, when Sally was brought in by a breeder who could no longer care for her.
Suffering from pneumonia, Sally had severe breathing difficulties and was described as “blue” by Kathryn.

To help Sally, Kathryn set up an oxygen “bubble” that provided the puppy with the necessary airflow to survive.
Realizing that Sally was oxygen dependent, Kathryn understood that the puppy would need to spend significant time in the bubble to strengthen her lungs.
For weeks, Kathryn diligently cared for Sally both inside and outside the oxygen chamber, as the puppy couldn’t be outside for more than a few seconds without gasping for air.

Despite her struggles, Sally showed a strong desire to live like a normal dog, often peering out the window or gesturing affectionately towards her caregivers.
Kathryn was determined to give Sally a better life. To stimulate her recovery, they would take Sally and her bubble to explore beyond the oxygen chamber’s confines.
It wasn’t long before Sally, eager to experience more, began pawing at the bubble, signaling her readiness for more time outside of it.

Initially, Sally could only manage short stints of about 15 seconds outside the bubble due to her respiratory condition.
However, Kathryn made it a routine to gradually increase Sally’s time outside, helping her lungs to gain strength. Over the weeks, Sally steadily improved, eventually managing three minutes without oxygen support.
As Sally’s health progressed, Kathryn ingeniously expanded the bubble to give her more room to move around. Sally’s first outing in the open air delighted her as she basked in the sunlight and felt the grass under her paws.
Even though her lungs couldn’t yet handle long stretches outside, her ability to return to the bubble voluntarily was a sign of her progress.

Finally, the day came when Sally decided on her own that she was ready to leave the bubble behind for good. Although initially hesitant, Kathryn respected Sally’s choice when the puppy made it clear she was done with the bubble.
Fortunately, Bonnie, one of Kathryn’s colleagues who had been involved in Sally’s rehabilitation, stepped in to adopt her. Welcomed into a loving home, Sally quickly adapted to life with her new family and canine siblings.
Now living a full and healthy life, Sally enjoys daily adventures, her first trip to the park, a swim at the pool, and choosing her toys. The once frail puppy has transformed into a thriving dog, embracing her new world with joy.
