The dog’s owner, Lenny Rose Ellema, residing in the Pangasinan province of the Philippines, shared this moving incident in September 2022.
The footage shows Bettie carefully digging a hole and gently placing her lifeless pup inside, covering him completely as if to shield him one last time.
Rose explained that Bettie’s maternal instincts drove her to try and save her puppy. This wasn’t the first time Bettie faced such a tragedy; she had experienced a similar loss the previous year when another of her puppies died during birth.
