A senior dog named MarMar spent several months on California’s streets, trying to fend for himself while staying away from humans. Hurt and carrying deep emotional scars, MarMar struggled to trust people and didn’t know how to seek the help he needed.
That is until Eldad Hagar, founder of the Los Angeles-based organization Hope For Paws, stepped in to change his life. Upon receiving a call from a concerned man named Phillip about MarMar’s dire situation, Eldad quickly set out to find the troubled pup.
MarMar was found near a gas station, in poor condition and too frail to flee. His paws were badly injured and he was visibly terrified. Shivering uncontrollably, MarMar was clearly bracing for more pain, unsure of what awaited him.
Eldad, however, offered MarMar the kindness he had been missing. After gently convincing MarMar to trust him, Eldad brought the frightened dog to Hope For Paws. There, he bathed MarMar warmly, providing a sense of safety and care that began to ease the dog’s anxiety.
MarMar was then taken to a veterinarian for a thorough check-up. The vet discovered that his bleeding paws were only affected by minor burns. Remarkably, aside from his injuries, MarMar was in good health for a dog of his age. Encouraged by this, Eldad set out to find him a foster home where he could continue his recovery and learn to trust humans again.
In those initial days, Katie McKittrick, a devoted volunteer at Hope For Paws, took MarMar in, introducing him to her dogs and a cat. Their presence helped MarMar feel more at ease. To Katie’s delight, MarMar quickly bonded with his new animal friends and began to show his sweet temperament, rediscovering the simple joys of being a dog.
Soon afterwards, the SAFE Rescue Team in Huntington Beach, California, offered MarMar a foster home until a more permanent solution could be found. MarMar is now thriving in this loving environment, receiving all the affection he deserves.
The rescue team shared their happiness about MarMar’s progress on Facebook, saying, “This little man is so LOVED, ADORED, and being celebrated every day of his precious life! MarMar is a true gem.”
There is hope that MarMar will soon find a forever home where he can continue to bring joy to those around him.
