Stewart, a distressed dog with a difficult past, found a fresh start after his discomfort was removed, offering hope and a new lease on life.
Photographer Rebecca Rood stumbled upon Stewart while walking through the Whitfield County Animal Shelter. Stewart was a sad-looking dog huddled in the corner of his kennel, seemingly wishing to become invisible. It was evident that he had endured a tumultuous journey (HV).

Rebecca discovered that Stewart had been rescued from the woods in Georgia, wearing a tight belt around his neck that caused him significant discomfort. Shelter workers attempted to remove it, but Stewart’s lack of trust led him to growl defensively.
With Stewart’s cautious consent, Rebecca approached and began documenting his story through photographs. These images, shared on her Facebook page, caught the eye of Courtney Bellew, the Director of Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation (SNARR).

Courtney quickly intervened, bringing Stewart to a veterinary clinic. There, he was sedated for examination and eventually neutered. During his stay, the troublesome belt was finally removed from his neck, marking a turning point in his demeanor. Stewart awoke from anesthesia as a changed dog — his tail wagging and his spirits lifted, ready to engage with his surroundings.
Courtney shared videos on SNARR’s Facebook page showcasing Stewart’s newfound playfulness, much to Rebecca’s emotional reaction. The transformation from the guarded dog she had met moved her to tears, witnessing his ability to trust and embrace help.

While Stewart still faces a long journey of rehabilitation ahead, his personality has undergone a remarkable change. He is progressing well and is expected to continue improving. Although his past remains a mystery, Stewart is now united with devoted individuals who are committed to ensuring he finds a loving forever home when he is ready.
